A graduate of the University of Hawaii at Hilo was awarded the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for the summer of 2016.
Devin Tanaka, who graduated with his second bachelor’s degree in the spring, began attending the Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan on July 1.
“I am looking forward to immersing myself in another foreign culture, interacting with people and visiting historical sites,” Tanaka said.
Tanaka attended the City University of Hong Kong while obtaining his first degree at UH-Hilo in fall 2012 and although Taiwan is not his first study abroad experience, he is still excited.
Tanaka has degrees in psychology and biology and is an aspiring physician assistant.
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship encourages international students to enroll in courses at a Taiwanese university in order to provide them with the opportunity to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, as well as foster a mutual understanding between Taiwan and international communities.
