Registration for adult education classes at the Waipahu Community School for Adults Hilo Campus is taking place until Aug. 15 at Waiakea and Keaau high schools.

The former Hilo Community School for Adults offers instruction in basic education, high school diploma equivalency and workforce education.

Classes include basic language arts and math, life skills required to complete the Competency-Based Community School Diploma Program and preparation for the General Education Development and High School Equivalency test. Additional classes include English language acquisition and special interest offerings such as slack-key ukulele.

WCSAHC also reintroduced a program called ICAN. At $20 a term, this career and workforce certification program is designed to help high school graduates transition to a job, career, college or training program.

ICAN teachers and counselors work with participants to develop a transition plan and teach skills that will prepare them for success in their chosen career or in college.
