Captain Gil Kuali’i, angler Leia DeMello and crew member Dave Winchester lured a 61.3-pound ahi July 10 aboard Honey Girl, the largest catch during the Hilo Trollers’ monthly tournament.
The Honey Girl also won grand champion honors with a combined weight of 130.4 pounds for two different flag fish.
The largest mahimahi was a 28.2-pounder landed on the Andrea W by captain Rodney Nishiki and angler Clive Tanimoto.
Since no boat may win awards for more than one flag fish, the honor for largest ono went to captain Carl Shioji, angler Ryson Nakamasu, and crew member Rory Tokeshi on the Aya T.
The next Hilo Trollers Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 7, and it will be combined with the annual Hawaii Island Contractors, Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Planing Mill Scholarship Tournament, which requires a different entry form and fee, which are available at S. Tokunaga Store, J. Hara Store and the HICA Office.
Contractors follows Hilo Trollers rules, and entries are due at the HICA Office, 494C Kalanikoa St. in Hilo, by 5 p.m. Friday.
Hilo Trollers entries are due at Tokunaga’s, Hara Store or Boat House Hawaii by 4 p.m. Friday.
