Born in Honomakau, he was a housekeeper at the former Hilo Hotel, Waiakea Village Resort and Volcano House; a kumu hulu in Hilo and Kohala halau; a Hawaiian language teacher; volunteer for the Merrie Monarch Festival and Kohala Aloha Week; judge, chairman and coordinator for the Kohala King Kamehameha Day parade in Kohala; and judge for the Miss Filipina and the Miss Sampagita clubs.
