It’s for military

It’s for military

Kilauea Military Camp, KMC, is hosting the Great Teachers Seminar and is closing the Lava Lounge this Thursday so they can have a private party, even though there are other places at KMC where they can have their event, the Koa Room for instance

So, any service members here on leave will just have to go elsewhere while the “great teachers” boot out our brave military men and women from their bar.

Sure, it’s only one day, but this is their bar and the only reason those teachers are “great” is because of military sacrifices.

It might seem petty on my part, but this is their bar and they should be able to go there and not be turned away because of some private party by some so-called “great teachers,” especially when other facilities are available at the camp.

If the teachers are so “great,” they should understand the sacrifice made by our military and willingly go to one of the other venues here at KMC, a very small sacrifice on their part.

The name game

I have to agree with McWarren J. Mehau’s recent letter to the editor regarding place names of Hawaii Island (Tribune-Herald, Your Views).

However, at the South Point area, he stated the name Papakolea (Plover Landing) was actually Papakulea. It was always Papakolea but mispronounced as Papakulea.

But Mr. Mehau is correct as to all the islands going through so many name changes, especially using westernized names in place of the original Hawaiian names.

Look at the old maps of our Islands, and you’ll no longer see the original district names today.
