Aloha Performing Arts Company announces open auditions for volunteer teen and adult actors for its October season opener, “Plan 9 from Outer Space” by Mark Landon Smith.

The comedy is loosely based on the 1959 cult film of the same name. The movie won two Golden Turkey Awards: for Worst Picture of All Time and for Worst Director of All Time, Edward D. Wood, Jr. The film and the play feature silly, not-so-special effects, aliens in skating skirts, angry military officers and a small squadron of grave-robbing zombies.

Auditions will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 6-7 at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, with possible invitational callbacks at 6 p.m. Sept. 8. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 11 and performance dates are Oct. 14-30. Those cast must commit to the rehearsal schedule with a minimum of conflicts, and to the entire three-weekend performance schedule. The full schedule will be posted at auditions.

Director Jerry Tracy is seeking a cast to play 30 roles: 10 are female, 10 are male, and 10 can be any gender. Actors might be asked to play more than one role. Auditions will consist of reading from the script, which is available for perusal by arrangement with APAC operations director Melissa Geiger at 322-9924 or by email at info@apachawaii.org.
