The weekly Hamakua Harvest farmers market, a vibrant social gathering place for the community and families, is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, rain or shine, at the intersection of Mamane Street and Highway 19 in Honokaa.
The market, known for its celebratory character, includes local farmers offering fresh produce, artisanal products and ono food, in addition to education programs and entertainment.
This week’s market features bamboo crafting from 10 a.m.-noon with Bobby Grimes.
Grimes, who has been building with bamboo since 2006, will demonstrate utensil making, bamboo splitting and panel weaving, and provide tips about growing, pruning, harvest, treatment and use.
Those planning to participate can bring a fine tooth or a sharp block plane and a Japanese pull saw. Gloves recommended. All ages and experience levels welcome.
Mikey Fiyah, “The Messenjah” with a soulful delivery, will perform live original music throughout the day.
SNAP/EBT benefits are accepted at the market, and Hamakua Harvest Bucks are available at the welcome booth.
