The Hawaii Carriage Driving Society is hosting a carriage driving fun day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. with a potluck lunch at noon Aug. 27 at the Panaewa Equestrian Center, next to the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo.

Everyone is invited to this free event.

Organized carriage driving is new to the Big Island and Hawaii in general, said John FitzGerald, the driving society’s activities chairman. He said the Hawaii Carriage Driving Society is doing what it can to bring the art back to life and offer the opportunity to as many interested people as possible

“Come experience how much fun it is to drive a horse-drawn vehicle,” FitzGerald said. “We will be doing pleasure drives throughout the Panaewa center area and race track infield. In addition, we will set up a competitive cone course to practice our skills.”
