Flight operations planned at HVNP

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park announces the following upcoming flight plans for August 2016:

• Between 6 a.m. and noon Aug. 22, 25 and 29 to shuttle crew, camp supplies, fencing material and equipment to ‘Ola‘a Tract.

• Between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday to shuttle crew and supplies for vegetation monitoring in the East Rift Zone, east of Napau Crater.

• Between 6 and 8 a.m. Aug. 23 for ungulate surveys and control work in Kahuku between 2,500- and 7,000-foot elevation.

The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors.

Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.

Woman’s club installs officers

The Hilo Woman’s Club recently hosted its installation luncheon at the Hilo Yacht Club, swearing in Jan Kuester as the new president and celebrating Beverly Heikes’ eight successful years as the organization’s leader.

The Hilo Woman’s Club is a community service organization committed to assisting and educating its members in the areas of civic and personal interest.

For the past 95 years, the club continuously has given back to the community in ways such as its scholarship program that started in 1953.
