Elizabeth Maluihi Ako Lee, 87, of Kohanaiki died Aug. 9 at home. Born in Holualoa, she was a master lauhala weaver, teacher of lauhala and makaloa crafts, founder of Ka Ulu Lauhala o Kona, cultural historian, Hawaiian language translator, kupuna for the Mayor’s Office, volunteer with the county’s Retired Senior Training and Employment Program, was honored as a “Living Treasure” by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, awarded the Mamo Award by the Bishop Museum and worked with the museum on various projects. She also was a salesclerk at the former Kona Inn Gift Lanai and worked for the late Dr. Thomas Mar and Kona Community Hospital. Visitation 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 28) at Mokuaikaua Congregational Church in Kailua-Kona. Funeral service at 3:30 p.m. Burial 10 a.m. Monday (Aug. 29) at Mokuaikaua Church Cemetery.
