Police are investigating a possible drowning at a South Kohala resort.

On Monday, officers responded to a 3:40 p.m. report of an unresponsive woman in a pool at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. When police and Fire Department personnel arrived, resort staff members were attempting CPR. Fire Department personnel took over attempts to revive the victim but were unsuccessful.

The victim has been identified as 76-year-old Brenda Chodroff of Lafayette, Calif.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
