Rummage sale to benefit school

Rummage sale to benefit school

Have stuff of minimal value gathering dust in a back room or garage? Donations are being accepted for Kaumana Elementary School’s annual PTSA-sponsored rummage sale scheduled for 7 a.m.-noon Oct. 8 in the school cafeteria.

Money raised from the rummage sale provides funds for classroom expenses such as supplies, excursions and cultural events and performances, said Kaumana teacher Noelani Spencer.

Donations of recycled treasures will be accepted from 2:30-5 p.m. Oct. 6-7 outside the cafeteria, upper parking lot. Donation receipts will be given upon request. No computers, monitors or TVs will be accepted.

For more information, contact Spencer at 974-4190 daily after 2:15 p.m. or email Noelani_Spencer@notes.k12.hi.us.

Physical therapist to focus on feet

Why is foot care so important for elder diabetics?

Beverly Abraham, physical therapist at Hale Anuenue, will be the guest presenter during Family Caregiver Respite Day from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Hawaii Island Adult Care, 34 Rainbow Drive in Hilo.

Abraham’s expertise includes certification in lymphedema treatment, but she’s developed a high regard for the well-being of the foot.

“It’s important for all of us, especially here in Hawaii, where we wear slippers and our feet are unprotected,” said Abraham, who has 32 years of experience in physical therapy.

The community is invited to Family Caregiver Respite Day to meet fellow family caregivers, enjoy coffee and healthy snacks and receive a massage.
