The skinny: A crowd of 477 on Wednesday at UH-Hilo gym watched the Vulcans (4-3, 2-0 PacWest) win for the fourth match in five matches.

It outblocked HPU (5-6, 1-1) 14-2.

Next up, the Vulcans face a four-match road trip, including tough tests against Dixie State and Point Loma.

Quotable: “Well, I prefer this method of course,” Tino Reyes on Wednesday of his team avoiding another 5-setter. “But truth is, playing in those tight matches has been good for us. The girls are used to it. Tonight, they were pressed a number of times by HPU, and earlier this season we might have squandered that lead. We didn’t do that this time.”

“That’s a tough trip,” Reyes said of the road swing. “But if we play like we did tonight and keep our attack errors low and continue to show patience, we have a chance to win any match.”
