The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a Canadian sailor seen leaving Aug. 1 from Hilo by a fellow mariner.
Paul Lim of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, reportedly left Hilo bound for Victoria aboard the 35-foot sailing vessel Watercolour. Coast Guardsmen estimate Lim should’ve have arrived in Victoria by Sept. 10 or 11.
Coast Guardsmen at Rescue Coordination Center Alameda began Sept. 21 broadcasting to mariners along Lim’s possible route to be on the lookout for his vessel. They have queried dozens of commercial vessels along his route and are broadcasting to all mariners along Pacific coasts, including in Alaska and Hawaii.
A U.S. Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Barbers Point in Honolulu completed a search in an area between Hilo and Victoria on Thursday with no sign of Lim.
The Watercolour has whites sails and a blue canvas dodger. Lim also was towing a 9-foot pink dingy.
Anyone with information about Lim’s or the Watercolour’s whereabouts is asked to call the USCG at 510-437-3701.
