Hawaii County Civil Defense reported late Thursday afternoon that a release of steam from a well at the Puna Geothermal Venture plant was contained and secured.
The report of the release came at 3 p.m. Thursday. Hawaii Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene. Initial reports were of electric problems.
Air quality monitors at the plant did not pick up any hazardous gas.
Civil Defense said the situation was contained and secured by 3:45 p.m. with no threat to the public and no evacuation necessary.
