Detective earns lieutenant bars
Hawaii Police Chief Harry Kubojiri promoted Jefferson A. Grantz to the rank of lieutenant.
Grantz is assigned to the North Hilo District in Laupahoehoe. He joined the Hawaii Police Department in 1990. As a patrol officer, his assignments took him to the districts of Ka‘u, Puna, South Kohala, Hamakua and North Hilo.
He was promoted to detective/sergeant in 2006. He worked as a detective in the Area II Criminal Investigations Section and the Area I Juvenile Aid Section and as a sergeant in the districts of Hamakua and, most recently, North Hilo.
His promotion took effect Sept. 16.
Farmers market set in Hamakua
The Hamakua Harvest Farmers Market from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday — rain or shine — will include an educational composting program by Sam Robinson and Noah Dodd of Hawaii Green Earth.
From 10 a.m.-noon, Robinson and Dodd will discuss basic and bokashi compost and the importance of soil health and how it relates to the welfare of humans, animals and the planet. Hawaii Green Earth is a small diversified farm that focuses on healthy soils, recycling and education. They have taught composting and recycling in schools and for the county for more than five years.
Located at the intersection of Mamane Street and Highway 19, the Hamakua Harvest Farmers Market features local farmers, fresh produce, artisanal products, ono food, entertainment and education programs. SNAP/EBT benefits are accepted.
Reggae singer and songwriter Mikey Fiyah “The Messenjah” will perform from 9 a.m. until market closing.
Lilikoi Festival Oct. 15 in Pahoa
The fourth annual Lilikoi Festival, a zero waste event sponsored by the Center for Spiritual Living East Hawaii, will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Makuu Farmers Market.
Anyone with a passion for passion fruit or who is just getting to know this amazing fruit so plentiful in Hawaii is sure to enjoy the festival’s lilikoi-themed cooking contest, demonstrations, live music, vendor booths and keiki activities. The third edition of the “Lilikoilicious Cookbook” will be available for purchase.
