A man is a man

A man is a man

It matters not who or what a man is; he is still a man of the human race.

Therefore, shouldn’t the church abolish celibacy?

Hilo

Wall a bad idea

After reading the Tribune-Herald article about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump saying he and the Mexican leader discussed building a wall on the border to keep immigration under control, I had many questions.

How much money is this wall going to cost? Who is going to build this wall? Union workers, or illegals?

Hawaii has a lot of expert rock-wall builders who could be of value to this project. But I think the wall is not a good idea because next we will have the Canadian government planning a wall.

Hilo

Trash woes

Hawaii County is sending rubbish from Hilo to Kona. Is this appropriate to transport and move trash from one place to another? This could be nearly a 100-mile transport. I think this is wrong because we are not solving the rubbish problem in Hilo; we are just giving it to Kona.

Now, Kona can deal with it. What happens when the Kona landfill gets full?

Will the county have something set up by then, or will it transport trash to another place such as Ka‘u, maybe Hawaiian Ocean View Estates? Or perhaps the county will ship the rubbish to the mainland or a foreign country?

This practice and way of thinking is not good for Earth or the people of Hawaii. The people of the Big Island have to start separating their rubbish into bins for paper, plastic, metal and glass. Just look at Fresno, Calif. It diverts 73 percent of its rubbish from the landfill by recycling.

If we could do that, Hilo’s rubbish would not have to be transported to Kona, and the Big Island would truly be a more beautiful place. But the only way it will get done is if people get into recycling and be responsible for their trash. It is not that hard. If a big city such as Fresno can do it, I “guarantee” we should be able to do it.

Stop moving trash from one place to another. Remember: Reduce, reuse and recycle.
