Showdown in Honokaa Town, a mixed martial arts and kick-boxing event, will start at 5 p.m. Saturday at Honokaa Sports Complex Gym with preliminary bouts. An incorrect starting time and site were listed earlier.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and pre-sale tickets are $20 and $25 at the door. Tickets are available at Convenience Plus, any Irie Hawaii location (Hilo, Kona or Pahoa). Seating is first come, first serve.

The MMA event is hosted by Hawaiian Fight League, a Big Island promotion, and Honolulu’s Star Elite Cage fighting.

In the main event, Honokaa’s Mana Meyers is fighting Waianae’s Tim Teves for the SEC lightweight (155 pounds) title. Ricky Mamone, from Hawaiian International Boxing Club, is battling Waianae’s Mesi Maae for a HFL kickboxing title, and Tehani Apao (HIBC) is taking on Waianae’s Raerae Yatsutake for a HFL belt.

Mamone’s brother, Wela Mamone (HIBC), will fight Waikoloa’s Keano Santos, 23, in a kick-boxing match. Wela Mamone is a Hilo senior linebacker, and the Vikings will play Keaau in a BIIF football game tonight.

The historic Showdown in Honokaa Town is regarded as the first MMA/kick-boxing event in recent memory.

Most MMA productions have been held at either Hilo Civic or in Kailua-Kona and rarely, if ever, any place else.
