UHH pharmacy health fair set

The University of Hawaii at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy will present its eighth annual Health Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo.

More than 150 student pharmacists will host education booths, health screenings and giveaways. There also will be live demonstrations, entertainment and a keiki poster contest for elementary- and middle-school students.

Participating organizations include Aloha Care, Bone Marrow Registry, Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes, Crisis Line of Hawaii, Hawaii Island Diabetes Coalition, Hawaiian Islands AIDS and HIV Foundation, Hui Malama Hawaii, Arc of Hilo, the Food Basket and others.

Singing classes offered in Puna

Mark Alan Vocal Works, brainchild of local voice teacher Mark Sheffield, is conducting a series of singing classes.

The classes include lectures and discussions of practical aspects of singing, followed by small group breakout sessions where singers of all experience levels can practice concepts learned.

The remaining classes are from 7-8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 at the Puna Covenant Church, 16-647 Old Volcano Road in Keaau. The cost is $25 per class. For more information, call 238-6040 or email everyonecansing16@gmail.com.

Temple hosting veterans service

The Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin’s 21st annual Veterans Appreciation Service will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Nov. 6.

All veterans, spouses, family and friends, regardless of religious preference, are invited to participate. Featured speaker will be District 3 state Rep. Richard Onishi, who served in the Army from May 1973-77.

Onishi is a Hilo High School graduate, attended Honolulu Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

He serves on numerous community boards and committees, including serving as president of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan.
