November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. In an effort to raise awareness and support for the delivery of compassionate care to hospice patients and families throughout Hawaii Island, KTA Super Stores will be raising money for Hospice of Hilo, North Hawaii Hospice and Hospice of Kona.
Throughout the month of November, registers at the stores will have colorful notepads with the option of donating $5 or $10 to ensure the highest quality of life for community members in need.
“The hospices provide incredible service and support for our community and we are happy to be partnering with them for our register tag campaign,” said Toby Taniguchi, KTA’s president and chief operating officer.
“It goes back to my dad’s early involvement in the ’90s,” Taniguchi said about KTA’s past support for Hospice of Hilo. “I can remember the two capital campaigns and my dad’s involvement with hospice way back then.”
Taniguchi credits the efforts of Pearl Daimaru-Orozco, KTA’s marketing manager and community relations director, for partnering with Hospice of Hilo.
“We all know someone who has benefited from the great service that Hospice of Hilo provides,” Daimaru-Orozco said.
“We are so grateful to KTA for supporting us in this effort and congratulate them on 100 years of generosity to our island community,” said Hospice of Hilo CEO Brenda S. Ho.
All monies raised by the KTA register campaign will stay in the community to ensure those who need pain management, symptom control, psychosocial support and spiritual care are able to access the service. Many of the services are not reimbursed by insurance providers. Donations ensure programs such as grief counseling remain free for anyone in the community who has lost a loved one.
