A Hilo man was arrested and charged after a robbery Wednesday at a Hilo supermarket on Kinoole Street.
A Hilo man was arrested and charged after a robbery Wednesday at a Hilo supermarket on Kinoole Street.
He was identified as Ku Manuia, 23.
Hawaii Island Police said that at 1:23 p.m., South Hilo patrol officers responded to the robbery report.
“Police determined that a man had entered the store and concealed merchandise within his waistband,” says a report from law enforcement.
“He then exited the store without paying for the items.”
An employee approached the suspect, who “kneed him in the head.”
The employee did not require medical treatment.
Manuia was charged with robbery and theft, with bail was set at $5,250.
He was expected to remain in custody until his initial his first court appearance Thursday.
