Pauline Mahuna, her mother, Ku‘ulei Coyaso, and ohana welcome everyone to their new flower shop, Kauionalani Creations, in Downtown Hilo.

The colorful store is located in the Hilo Plaza Building, 180 Kinoole St., Suite 117.

Kauionalani Creations offers flowers for all occasions, specializing in floral wreaths, bouquets, lei and custom arrangements. Mahuna named the shop after her daughter, Kauionalani, which means “the beauty of the heavens”

“We like to go out in nature and pick local foliage to add a unique touch to our work,” Mahuna said.

The family’s desire to be of service to those in bereavement is the inspiration for them to create memorable wreaths and arrangements. They started out producing gifts for friends and neighbors and selling lei on the roadside for May Day and graduations. The continued growth of the business demanded a “real brick-and-mortar” shop with a showroom of flowers for all occasions.

Business hours are 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday through Friday, closed Saturday.
