Applications are being accepted for the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Project Ma‘a.
The year-round Manowai o Hanakahi project, funded by the National Marine Fisheries Service, provides up to 15 students marine conservation and outreach training. Hawaii Island middle and high school students attending grades 8-12 are eligible to apply for the free program.
The application deadline is Nov. 11.
Activities will include field trips, mentored research projects and career pathway exposure beginning in mid-November and running until mid-May. A kickoff tide-pooling event will take place from noon-3 p.m. Sunday at Onekahakaha Beach Park, where students and parents can learn more about the project.
