Anna Derby Blackwell, 84, of Honolulu, formerly of Hawaii Island, died Oct. 18 at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was executive director of Moanalua Garden Foundation, co-founder of the Prince Lot Hula Festival, a freelance writer and member of the Cooke Foundation Board. Memorial service 4 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 5) at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Makiki, Honolulu, Oahu. Aloha attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to the Dora Derby Fund at Hanahauoli School or the Hawaii School for Girls. Survived by daughters, Caroline Bond Davis of Honolulu, Susan “Suzi” Bond of Keaau, Sarah “Sally” Bond of Kailua-Kona and Elizabeth “Betsy” (Larry) Deniston of Walnut Creek, Calif.; son, Boyd D. (Becky) Bond of Kapaau; brothers, Philander (George-Anne) Derby of Honolulu and John (Lyn) M. Wendell Riley Castro, 90, of Hilo died Oct. 17 at home. Born in Ninole, he was a retired Hawaii County Police Department patrol captain, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Kupuna, HGEA and Parks &Recreation bowling leagues. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 10) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 9:30 a.m. Urn burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Evelyn “Lyn” Riyeko Kagawa, 94, of Hilo died Oct. 26 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Tacoma, Wash., she was the retired owner of the former Hata’s Inc., board member of Hawaii Island Adult Care and member of Church of the Holy Cross, Piihonua Community Association, RSVP, Reach to Recovery–American Cancer Society, Kumamoto Doshi Kai and Silver Steppers. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Urn committal service 2 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by son, Dennis (Sue) Kagawa of Hilo; daughters, Eileen (Les) Wagatsuma and Pearl (Sheldon) Takasaki of Hilo; brother-in-law, Yukio Kagawa of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Lucille Miyazaki of Wisconsin and Alice Kagawa of Honolulu; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
