James “Kimo” Kahikina Akaka Sr., 56, of Hilo died Oct. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired work leader at Pohakuloa Training Area, former tubaist with the Hawaii County Band, vice president of the Puna Canoe Club, 1977 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
