Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man wanted for a burglary in Hilo on May 31.

Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man wanted for a burglary in Hilo on May 31.

At about 2:15 p.m. on that date, police responded to the 1900 block of Kilauea Avenue, where an a 83-year-old Hilo woman reported that while walking into her dining room, she observed a man come out of her bedroom and then flee the area on foot. The victim reported that the intruder removed miscellaneous jewelry and cash valued at $8,100. The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a local male in his early 20s between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a white chef jacket and black slacks, and was carrying a red bag.

Police are releasing a composite drawing of the suspect. Anyone who knows his identity or has information about this incident is asked to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311, Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 or contact Detective Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or dean.uyetake@hawaiicounty.gov.
