Open invitation to Peace Corps film
A film project that began six years ago after the 50th anniversary celebration of the Peace Corps in Hilo is ready for viewing.
The film shows Peace Corps training scenes on Hawaii Island — in Hilo and Waipio Valley in particular. The first showing will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Dec. 3 at Mookini Library at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Former Peace Corps staff members, volunteers and anyone who has been involved with the Peace Corps training on Hawaii Island between 1962 and 1971 is encouraged to attend. The public also is welcome to the free screening.

UH-Hilo hosting holiday show
The public is invited to “Holiday Card to Hilo: Christmas Around the World” at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center.
Join the UH-Hilo Kapili Choir and University Chorus under the direction of Amy Horst, the Orchid Isle Orchestra under the direction of Cathy Young, the Hilo Community Chorus under the direction of Tom McAlexander and VOICES under the direction of Mark Sheffield performing holiday classics, favorites and more.

Nonprofits receive electric vehicles
The Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation and Hawaii Electric Light Co. recently donated Smart electric vehicles to three local nonprofit organizations.
The vehicles and symbolic keys were presented to representatives from the Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island, HOPE Services Hawaii and the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
The donated cars are lightly used Smart ForTwo electric vehicles with an average mileage of 4,000 miles. The cars come equipped with electric charging equipment and are valued at more than $10,000.
HPA students on stage Dec. 2
Second- and third-graders at Hawaii Preparatory Academy will present “How to Interact with Human Beings” at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at Gates Performing Arts Center on the school’s upper campus.
The performance is free and open to the public.
In this curriculum-based musical, four superheroes struggle to improve their people skills as their sidekicks avoid them and their advisers demand mastery of the important skills. HPA lower school music teacher Georgia Poláková directs.
This is the second performance in a series of musical productions by HPA’s lower school students. The next production by the kindergarten and first-grade classes will be Feb. 3.
