For years, President-elect Donald Trump was the most vocal proponent of what came to be called Birthers — those who believed President Barack Obama is a Muslim and was born in Kenya.
Villainous garbage, of course, and designed to delegitimize President Barack Obama. But the strategy worked to the extent that a majority of Republicans came to believe this Birther nonsense.
Now the shoe, as they say, might be on the other foot.
Hillary Clinton got 2 million-plus more votes than Trump. There will be recounts in the state of Wisconsin, and perhaps Michigan and Pennsylvania. It appears as if the Russians, with the help of WikiLeaks, interfered in our election. FBI Director James Comey, in the days before the election, violated historical precedence and released information about candidate Clinton that had no substance in truth but negatively affected her campaign.
If one were inclined to do so, there is enough here to ironically give rise to a chorus of Trump illegitimacy.
And if this scenario plays out, Trump will have a chance to walk in Obama’s shoes.
We’ll have to ask him how that feels.

Stop the madness
With the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor soon, we should reflect upon the war that followed.
Most of those who fought were just regular people who stood up to fight a real threat to the United States.
Right now, many of our children have fought in the deserts of Arabia. Since the drawdown, we have waged an air war nonstop against ISIS and others. The U.S. Air Force just announced that we have run out of guided bombs — we have released almost 3,000 of these bombs since Oct. 16.
We need to stop this madness. We are fighting over piles of rubble and bombed-out buildings. Maybe someone should tell the president-elect.
