During the week of Nov. 21-27, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; Puna and South Hilo, six each.
So far this year, there have been 996 DUI arrests compared to 980 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.6 percent.
There have been 1,280 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,396 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.3 percent.
So far this year, there have been 28 official traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island, compared to 17 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 64.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
