The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Island of Hawaii until 11:15 a.m. Friday.

A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or occurring in streams.

Rain gauges across East Hawaii indicated rain falling at a rate of 3 to 4 inches an hour and flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Don’t cross fast flowing water in your vehicle or on foot. “Turn around, don’t drown,” the weather service advised.

The flash flood warning may be extended beyond 11:15 a.m. if heavy rain persists.
