Orchestra concert rescheduled
Because of weather predictions and flooding, Orchid Isle Orchestra has postponed performing “Rhapsody und Bloch.”
The new concert time and date are 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at the East Hawaii Cultural Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
Meanwhile, in a separate concert, “Holiday Card to Hilo: Christmas Around the World,” Orchid Isle Orchestra performs with several choruses at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are on sale for $20 online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu or call 932-7490.
Deaf Santa returns to Parker Center
The Parker Ranch Center wishes everyone a mele kalikimaka and invites the community to its Deaf Santa Christmas Program from 9:30 a.m.-noon Dec. 15 in the food court.
Students in deaf classes in Keaau and deaf throughout the island are attending. Volunteers from the deaf community (deaf elves) will be on hand for American Sign Language storytelling, skits and songs.
There also will be crafts, games food and photos with Santa.

Keaau parade entrants sought
Attention parade participants. Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in the 13th annual Keaau Village Lighted Parade starting at 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Keaau Pahoa Road.
This year’s theme is “Local Kine Christmas.” Friday is the deadline to submit a participant packet, available at Keaau Village Market, by emailing keaauchristmasparade@gmail.com or calling 895-6288.
Boys, Girls Club program offered
The Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island’s Hilo Clubhouse is accepting applications for its winter intersession program Dec. 22 through Jan. 6.
The program is for students in grades K-12. Intersession hours are 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Activities include arts and crafts, gardening, holiday baking, sports and games, excursions and more.
The fee per club member is $200, $210 for nonmembers, and includes daily lunch and snack. The registration deadline is Dec. 16.

BISAC receives $40,000 donation
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council recently received $40,000 from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation to help further its reach to provide substance abuse and prevention services to Hawaii Island.
The funds will be used to help BISAC provide transportation services and reach individuals in rural-underserved areas.
