Mandi Kawaha, a junior, scored 16 points and freshman Mindy added 12 as the Vikings raced past Hawaii Prep 53-15 at their gym in a BIIF basketball opener.

The game was the regular-season debut for coach Cliff Kawaha, uncle to Mandi and Mindy.

Kiele Wise led Ka Makani with eight points.

The Vikings led 31-8 at the half.

In junior varsity, Hilo won 44-19.

Soccer

Christian Mamone and Daniel Vierra each scored two goals as Keaau beat Ka’u 5-1 at the Cougars’ field to remain unbeaten.

Vierra already has seven goals this season, while Rico Handy netted his third. Mamone has three as well.

Makua Lani 9, Kohala 0

The host Lions received goals from six different players, improving to 2-0.

The Cowboys fell to 0-2.

Girls

Waiakea 9, Keaau 0

Kiana Corpuz and Ki Serrao each recorded hat tricks and assisted on goals as the Warriors won on the road.

While Waiakea improved to 2-0, the Cougars fell to 0-2.

Kaylee Valentino-Fergerstrom finished with a goal and two assists and Bryonie Cameron and Xailynn Moke Lyman also scored for Waiakea.

Konawaena 6, Makua Lani o

Nanea Wall scored four goals as the Wildcats (2-1-0) won at Old Kona Airport Park.

The Lions dropped to 0-2.
