Kamehameha swim lessons

Kamehameha swim lessons

The Kamehameha girls water polo team will be teaching swimming classes during winter break.

The cost of the classes is $50 per 3 week session, and they are a fundraising effort by the team, which sent some members to a tournament in China during the summer.

This coming July, the team is hoping to travel to Hungary on a training and competition trip.

Classes will run on the following schedules:

Dec. 21-Jan. 6, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be instructed at all time periods, 11-11:40 a.m.; 11:45 a.m. -12:25 p.m.; 12:30–1:10 p.m.; 1:15-1:55 p.m.

Dec. 20-Jan. 5, Tuesday and Thursdays: Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be instructed at all time periods, 11-11:45 a.m.; noon-12:45 p.m.; 1-1:45 p.m.

Pahoa High Softball tourney

The Pahoa softball tournament runs Jan 6-8, with all proceeds going to the athletic department.

Divisions are open men’s, open women’s and senior 50-and-over,

Entry is $250 and the tournament will be played at the new athletic complex behind the Pahoa recreation center.

Hilo AYSO registration

Registration is available for the Hilo region of the American Youth Soccer Organization’s spring season, which runs April to June, for ages 4-18.

Forms for new players are available at Life Care Center, Hilo Social Service Department, 944 West Kawailani St. in Hilo, or at www.eayso.org, and can be mailed to AYSO PO Box 5000 Hilo, HI 96720 with $60.

The deadline to enter is Jan. 15.

P&R track meets slated

The Department of Parks and Recreation will hosting its annual track and field meets in February for ages 6-14:

Age-group meets will be held Feb. 11 at Waiakea and Konawaena.

Exponent meets will be held Feb. 25 at Waiakea and Konawaena.

Field events at both meets start at 9 a.m., with track starting at 10:30 a.m.

Flag football tournament

PAC Hawaii is hosting a 9-man adult flag football tournament on December 17 at Panaewa Park.

The tournament will host no more than eight teams and will be a double-elimination format with BIIF referees.

The cost to enter a team will be $300 for a 20-man roster and any team in excess of that will be assessed $20 per participant.

Proceeds will pay for referees, associated costs, and will buy equipment for Panaewa’s track and field team.
