KAILUA-KONA — As far as first impressions go, Kealakehe made the biggest one at the first all schools BIIF regatta at Kailua Bay on Saturday.
The Waveriders captured the varsity mixed, and girls races, but missed out on the clean sweep as the Kamehameha boys took gold.
Kealakehe won the mixed race by a healthy margin, coming in at 4 minutes and 21.51 seconds.
The crew edged second place Keaau (4:28.64) and third place Parker (4:34.90).
The Waverider golden girls had a similar margin in their victory, crossing in 4:47. 09, edging Kamehameha (4:53.73) and Keaau (5:00.06).
At the west side school meet last week, Kealakehe won the same two races.
The Kamehameha boys cruised in their half-mile race, finishing in 4:07.78. Kealakehe followed close behind (4:09.28), and Waiakea (4:10.99).
The squads have some time off before convening for the next meet, and all school affair on Jan. 7 at Hilo Bay, which will also be the site of the BIIF finals.
