Hilo Coast UCC plans candlelight service

Hilo Coast UCC plans candlelight service

Hilo Coast United Church of Christ will host its sixth annual Christmas Eve Candle Light Service at 6 p.m. Saturday at 28-1630 Old Mamalahoa Highway in Honomu.

There will be local musicians, and light refreshments will be served following the service.

The public is invited to this free event.

Celebrate Christmas with Church of the Holy Cross in Hilo

Celebrate the love that came down at Christmas with special services for Christmas Eve on Saturday and Christmas Day on Sunday at Church of the Holy Cross UCC, 440 W. Lanikaula St., Hilo.

Christmas Eve worship begins at 7 p.m. and will include seasonal lessons and carols. Vocalist Scott Wuscher will join choir director Rachel Edwards to sing “What Child Is This?” and Edwards will give voice to the soaring melody of “O Holy Night.” The Na Leo Ni‘o Lani choir will raise the lovely anthem “Carol of the Sheep Bells.”

The Rev. Eric Anderson will deliver the Christmas meditation before the congregation shares the singing of “Silent Night” amid the glow of candlelight.

On Christmas morning, the 10 a.m. Sunday worship will celebrate the gift of Jesus through the singing of favorite Christmas carols and an “everyone participate” instant Christmas pageant in which everyone can be an “angel.”

Worship the majesty of the Christ Child during candlelight service

Come “Worship His Majesty” with United Community Church in Hilo during the Christmas weekend.

The church, located at 1110 Kinoole St., invites the community to join it for a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. Saturday. The service will feature an uplifting and wondrous presentation of great joy dedicated to the Christ Child, with guest artists Mark Yamanaka and Mike Thomas.

The church’s Christmas Day service is slated for 10 a.m. Sunday.

Kona Beth Shalom plans Hanukkah event

Kona Beth Shalom invites the community to celebrate Hanukkah from 4-7:30 p.m. Monday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.

This grand family party will feature miracles, magic, hula, Israeli dancing, klezmer music and delicious treats.

The ancient story will be retold, menorahs galore will be lighted, dreidels will be spun and potato latkes will be available for purchase.

Kona Beth Shalom congregants and guests will provide a potluck dinner. No shellfish or pork.

Dance and sing to music performed by Kona’s Traveling Jewish Wedding Band. There is a $5 admission fee for non-KBS adults. Children ages 13 and younger are free.
