Every game counts in BIIF Division I boys basketball, where six teams are battling for four playoff spots.

Mears kept Keaau from getting behind the eight-ball Friday, hitting a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to lift the Cougars to a 43-41 season-opening victory against Pahoa.

Along with his heroics, Mears, a sophomore, finished with 18 points, hitting 8 of 10 from the free-throw line.
