HPA book club to meet Jan. 19

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy Community Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Ko Kakou Student Union, Upper Campus.

HPA Community Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and participants are invited to bring a snack to share.

Lois Inman, Dyer Memorial librarian, and Jaime Johnson, Upper School English teacher, will lead the group. The current book selection is “The Vegetarian” by Han Kang, winner of the 2016 Man Booker International Prize.

Fraught, disturbing and beautiful, “The Vegetarian” is a novel about modern-day South Korea, but also a story about shame, desire and faltering attempts to understand others, from one imprisoned body to another.
