Herman Estraela Hernaez, 94, of Hawi died Dec. 12 at home. Born in San Jose, Nueve Ecija, the Philippines, he was a retired payroll timekeeper for Kohala Sugar Mill, night auditor for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, laborer at Kohala Nursery, member of American Legion and AFL-CIO Carpenter’s Union, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and Army National Guard. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Denise Lehua Winona Scott, 40, of Ocean View and Winchester, Calif., died Oct. 26 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, she was a hair stylist and certified cosmetologist.
