Bailey Gaspar homered in both games, including a grand slam, to help give UH-Hilo a road doubleheader sweep, 10-5 and 8-5, over Western New Mexico on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader.

UH-Hilo (5-2) travels to the Dixie State Easton Classic, which begins on Thursday with a test against No. 19 nationally ranked Colorado Mesa.

Against the Mustangs (0-7), Gaspar hit her fourth and fifth home runs of the season. Last year during an all-region and All-American year, she hit six total.

In the first game, UH-Hilo scored four runs in the fourth inning to give starting pitcher Billi Derleth (2-1) all the run support she would need.

In Game, 1, the Vulcans had 14 hits: three by Mari Kawano, and two each by Kristen Ishii, Maria Steadmon and Danielle Pulido. Ishii and Steadmon had three RBI each while Pulido drove in two.

In Game 2, Gaspar drilled her grand slam. Pulido batted 3 for 3, while Steadmon again had two hits and drove in a run.

UH-Hilo senior Danielle Wilson (2-0) pitched her second complete game of the season.

She tossed seven innings, allowed seven hits, walked two, struck out four and was charged with just three earned runs. She didn’t give up a hit through her last three innings of work.
