Aiko Fukunaga, 94, of Pahala died Jan. 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, she was retired from Ka‘u Agribusiness, an RSVP volunteer and member of Pahala Hongwanji Mission and Pahala Senior Center. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Takamari Fukunaga of Pahala; sons, Alvin (Jackie) Fukunaga of North Little Rock, Ark., Allen Fukunaga of Canyon Country, Calif.; daughter, Elaine Kamakura of Simi Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen Solomon, 71, of Ocean View, formerly of Sacramento, Calif., and Milwaukee, died Dec. 4, 2016, at home. Born in Milwaukee, she was a physical education teacher in Wisconsin and Sacramento, a preschool teacher at Hookena Elementary School and member of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church. She loved Hawaiian culture and danced hula with Na Kupuna O Pohue, studied Hawaiian language and took ukulele lessons. Celebration of life at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 14) at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, 92-8606 Paradise Circle in Ocean View. Private burial at a later time. Survived by cousins, Joanne Hafner, Thomas (Pam Grant) Andrews, R. Paul Chavez and Patty (Steve) Brink, all of Wisconsin; caregiver, Erlinda (Aby) Laasaga of Kailua-Kona.
