The Hakalau Bridge on Old Mamalahoa Highway will be closed starting at 5 p.m. Friday due to public safety concerns, the county Department of Public Works said Thursday.
The closure will remain in effect until further notice. Hakalau Beach Park also will close due to the bridge closure.
The bridge is located in the gulch and is not the Highway 19 bridge.
The county says it discovered in a recent assessment the bridge’s northern foundation has worn away due to scouring from Hakalau Stream. A repair plan is currently underway.
