Alzheimer’s group seeking volunteers
The Alzheimer’s Association is searching for volunteers to help organize the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Hilo and Kona.
“It takes a committee to help make these important events happen,” said Hawaii program coordinator Chris Ridley.
The Hilo walk will take place Sept. 16 and the Kona walk is Oct. 7.
Working with Ridley and staff from Oahu, volunteers serve in a number of roles, from planning the events and working at check-in stations to assisting with post-walk activities.

Night photography class at UH-Hilo
The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering a night photography class this weekend with award-winning landscape photographer Michelle Shuey.
The two-session class is from 5-9:30 p.m. Saturday and 4-8:30 p.m. Sunday in Portable Building-7 (Computer Lab). The course includes a field trip. Tuition is $85 and includes transportation.
Shuey, a member of the UH-Hilo geography and environmental science faculty, will show participants how to manipulate a digital single lens reflex camera to take captivating night photos.
The classes will focus on basic camera techniques and settings used for long exposure photos, and taking photographs at various locations with possible venues including Hilo town, Hilo Bay, Coconut Island, Mauna Kea and the nighttime glow from Halema‘uma‘u crater, weather permitting.
Students are responsible for providing their own DSLR or mirrorless camera, a remote shutter release, and tripod.

Waiakea High juniors hosting fair
Waiakea High School’s class of 2018 will host its annual Junior Country Fair, a fun-filled day with food and great finds from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 4 at the school cafeteria.
The fair will feature a rummage sale, silent auction, craft fair vendors, a plant sale, fun games, live entertainment from local groups, games and ono food.
Donations for the rummage sale will be accepted from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday at the school’s front ramp by the library. Student helpers will be there to assist in unloading items from vehicles.
All monies raised will help the class of 2018 pay for upcoming senior year expenses.

Vegan love feast planned in Kona
Valentine Lemuria LoveFest, a vegan love feast catered by ‘Ai Pono and Evolution Bakery &Cafe, starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Kahaluu Beach Pavilion in Kailua-Kona.
The event will feature a special musical presentation of “O Lemuria: Songs of The Purple Sun” performed by the Lemuria Consort (Irminsul, Bernice Roberto and Madhavi Infinity).
