‘Big Dog’ scholarships

The Wayne “Big Dog” Joseph scholarship committee will be giving $6,000 to graduating seniors in recognition of their participation in a BIIF cross-country or track and field program.

The committee will select six recipients for $1,000 college scholarships.

The purpose of the scholarship is to financially assist qualified student-athletes to pursue their goals of higher education and to ultimately make a positive contribution to our island community.

AYSO sign-ups ongoing in Hilo

The American Youth Soccer Organization is looking for some volunteers and players for the spring season.

Players must be 4 years old by April 1.

Waiakea High golf fundraiser

The Friends of Waiakea Golf will be hosting their 2017 Waiakea High School Golf Scramble on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Tournament format is a two-person scramble. Entry fee is $200 per team, which includes green fees, golf cart, pupus, bento lunch and dessert. Entry forms are available at the Hilo Muni pro-shop or call coach Sandra (747-0105) or coach Alika (756-1282) for more information.

Pahoa High mandatory parent meeting Feb. 14

A Pahoa High mandatory spring athletic parent meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pahoa cafeteria.

All parents and athletes must attend or you will not be able to participate in spring Sports. If attended fall and winter parent meeting, you do not need to attend spring parent meeting.
