Walk/run to support brain tumor studies
The community is invited to participate in the inaugural Nichole’s Fight Against Time 5K Walk/Run fundraiser starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at Keaau Shipman Park.
Nichole Kaiwi (Perreira-Pagatpatan) died from a brain tumor Jan. 25, 2016. The event is hosted in her memory with proceeds going toward the American Brain Tumor Association for research and awareness.
The 5K walk/run will be followed by live entertainment from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring Ben Kaili, Dru Kekaualua, Loeka Longakit, Braddah Waltah and Mark Yamanaka.
There also will be craft vendors, games and bouncing castles for the keiki. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase from Liko Lehua Catering.

APAC offers acting workshop for kids
Aloha Performing Arts Co. is offering a spring break acting workshop for youth from 9 a.m.-noon March 20-24 at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
“Keiki Intro to Theatre” will be instructed by Emma Lou, a drama teacher, actress and poet who recently relocated to Kona from Montana, where she independently founded Beartooth Actors Workshop, an annual young actors theater camp since 2012.
“Keiki Intro to Theatre” is designed for beginning and intermediate actors between the ages of 8 and 12 who love to learn and want to further develop and grow as actors. Students will learn basic stage skills and vocabulary and begin to examine physical and emotional character development.
No previous acting experience is necessary. Students should dress comfortably for movement and wear close-toed shoes. Some exercises might be done barefoot, but students are required to arrive each day in shoes.
Tuition is $125 per student for 15 hours of instruction and includes all necessary materials. Sibling discounts are available. Enrollment is limited; early registration is recommended. Join effort to plant sandalwood trees
In a continuing effort to preserve the critically endangered native habitat of palila birds, the Hawaiian Reforestation Program invites the public to plant sandalwood trees every Friday on the northwest side of Mauna Kea.
Working with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and Division of Forestry and Wildlife, the program has planted more than 27,000 sandalwood trees and other native host plants.
