“The atmosphere over the state is already pretty moist and unstable,” meteorologist Robert Ballard said this morning.
That instability and moisture is going to increase, he said.
He asked residents to get ready now, especially those in flood-prone areas.
Ballard also cautioned surfers to be aware of the possibility of lightning — all the way through Wednesday.
Thirty-eight people died in 2016 from lightning strikes nationwide, the National Weather Service data site shows. None were in Hawaii.
