There are six openings on the nine-member Hawaiian Paradise Park Owners Association board of directors.
The election is June 1, however, interested owners who want to run as a candidate must submit their application form by 4 p.m. March 17 at the HPPOA office. Districts needing new board members are 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9. Candidates must be members in good standing.
The board meets the third Wednesday of each month to review and decide on the needs of the community, personnel, roadways, fiscal budget and concerns of its owners.

Honokaa class reunion planned
Members of Honokaa High School’s class of 1977 are planning a 40th reunion celebration with events scheduled for July 21-23.

‘New Particles’ talk at UH-Hilo
The University of Hawaii at Hilo Physics and Astronomy Program invites the public to a presentation titled “Discovering New Particles” at 7 p.m. March 16 at the UH-Hilo Science and Technology Building, Room 108.
Sally Seidel, professor of physics at the University of New Mexico, will address the discovery of new particles involving teams of people from dozens of nations working together to build experimental facilities so large that if they weren’t buried deep underground, they would be visible from space.
Seidel’s focus searches for new physics processes with the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and development of new instruments for particle detection. In 2014, her group discovered a new particle, the Bc(2S).

Learn basic
computer skills
The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering a workshop on basic computer skills.
Classes will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. today through Friday in UH-Hilo’s PB-7 (Computer Lab). Tuition is $75.
Evan Clark, who has taught technology classes to adults for more than 10 years, will show participants how to effectively manage their computer by using the basic Windows applications, including WordPad, NotePad, Task Manager, Calculator, Paint and Internet Explorer.
