Dylan Sugimoto singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning at Wong Stadium and Alex Telles and Kamalu Kamoku combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief Sunday as the Vulcans beat Academy of Art 6-4 for their second consecutive win at Wong Stadium.
Telles gave up just two hits in three innings of work and didn’t walk a batter. Kamoku followed by striking out the side in the eighth inning, setting up a drama filled ninth.
The 6-0, 285-pounder flame thrower gave up a lead-off single, and two batters latter another base hit. But he struck out two pinch hitters, including the final out of the game, to pick up his first save of the season.
Tied 4-4 in the sixth, BJ Freitas walked and moved second when Jonathan Segovia was hit by a pitch. Sugimoto singled to right to score Freitas, and Segovia raced to third and came home on Yamada’s sacrifice fly to center.
Sugimoto and Michael Suguro finished with two hits apiece.
The Vulcans (3-4, 3-2 Pacific West Conference) and Urban Knights (7-13, 3-4) close the four-game series out at 6 p.m. Monday.
