Matsuko Asuka, 97, died Feb. 25. She was born in Hilo. Services held; no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Dennis (Ray-Lynn) Kawasaka of Honolulu; daughters, Carol (Aaron) Ikeda of Kealakekua and Sandra (Wayne) Matsuda of Wailuku, Maui; daughter-in-law, Wilma Kawasaka of Hilo; brother-in-law, Robert (Chitsuko) Asuka of Hilo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Betty Jean Serquina Matias, 59, of Keaau died Feb. 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Lihue, Kauai, she was a business owner and homemaker. Memorial services 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday (March 19) at Puna Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kaloli Drive and 18th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park. Casual attire. Survived by husband, John D. Matias of Keaau; daughters, Eunice (Robert) Silva of Medford, Ore., Desiree (Kevin) Reiswig of Pahoa and Lenora (Anthony Chatman) Castillo of Keaau; brothers, Edward (Margaret) Serquina and Erwin Sequine of Lihue and Andrew (Tracie) Serquina of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Anita Seaward of Kentucky and Mary Serquina of the mainland; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; blended family, Derek (Debra) Matias of Pahoa, Denise (John Rios Sr.) Matias of Kalopa and Delilah (Robert) Perreira of Keaau; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchlidren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice Sakuyo Oshita, 85, of Hilo died March 2 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was retired from the former Hawaii Island Glass and a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and AJA Bowling Club.
