The East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai announced during its 50th annual meeting and New Year’s luncheon Feb. 25 that it is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to continue their post high school education this fall.
Applicants must be a senior at any East Hawaii public or private high school and must enroll full time at any accredited college or university for the 2017-2018 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more.
Applicants also must be a child or grandchild of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai member.
Application forms and instructions are available at the counselor offices of East Hawaii public and private high schools. The deadline for the 2017-18 scholarships is April 15; applications must be postmarked by this date.
The Kenjin Kai also honored Beiju recipients, those who have attained the auspicious age of 88 in 2017, with a certificate from the Kenjin Kai and a commemorative citation from Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki of Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan.
The recipients are: Hatsuno Fujimoto, Mae Hirano, Shinae Hirano, Kinue Ito, Shigeru Kataoka, Emiko Matsuoka, Ruth Matsuura, Helen Mishima, Russell Oda, Sally Seikaku, Masuko Shimizu, Doris Sumida, Satsuyo Taira, Amy Tanaka and Rosie Tatsuta.
