The Survey reports the quake was located about nine miles south-southwest of Volcano at a depth of about .5 kilometers.
Hawaii County Civil Defense issued an earthquake information message Thursday which said there was no threat of a tsunami for Hawaii Island or the rest of the state.
The quake occurred in the Hilina Pali vicinity of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, according to the Civil Defense message.
